Music Legend AR Rahman Faces Backlash for Uploading His ‘Chennai concert highlights’

Legendary musician AR Rahman faces criticism after he shared highlights from his controversial concert that happened in Chennai on 10th September. The musician himself has been the epitome of ongoing controversy at his overcrowded concert. The organizers of the concert are booked by the Police on Friday as there have been reports that some of the tickets have been distributed illegally. The legendary musician’s concert was named ‘Marakkuma Nenjum’ (Does the Heart Ever Forget), taking place on East Coast Road.

The Oscar-winning singer chose his social media to post highlights from the concert, his caption says, ‘Chennai concert highlights!’ The shared video contains the master of music himself and others performing on stage and the uplifted fans are rooting for them. He has chosen the tracks from his first ever film which was Mani Ratnam’s Roja, a romantic thriller released in 1992. The excited audiences also get to experience the legend playing the piano and the tanpura live on stage.

But the phenomenal musician disabled his comment section under his shared post caught the eyes of his followers and caused him to face immense trolling on Instagram and as well as X, formerly known as Twitter. The authorities of the concert met with feedback like utmost blunder and also the audiences faced sexual harassment at the concert area.

Moreover, a lot of X users have left their comments on the music legend’s ‘tone-deaf’ post on Instagram. One left her complaint about being not allowed in the concert because of massive traffic and demanded for refund as soon as possible, saying, ‘Been two weeks since I’ve sent the mail that you asked us to send. Haven’t even had a reply to the sent mail. Looking at the closed comments, Sure there are others awaiting a response like me 10 mins more lost writing a mail for a concert that I couldn’t attend.’ Another fan posted, saying, ‘Absolutely sickening to see this from the man himself, again. This is exactly what rubbing salt into the wound means…

Well, lawful steps have been taken against the organizers of the ACTC Events. A police official shared, ‘Due to chaos at the venue, many complained about the concert tickets being oversold. Following this, the Tambaram City Police took up the investigation and registered cases under IPC section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated) against Hemanth Raja, CEO of ACTC Events, and two others,’

However, Rahman shared his utmost disappointment and asked for better infrastructure from the concert authorities, saying, ‘Some people call me G.O.A.T …………let me be the sacrificial goat this time for all of us to wake up ..let Chennai’s live art flourish with a world-class infrastructure, increase in tourism, efficient crowd management, traffic management, refining audiences to follow rules ..creating a safe and surreal experience for children and women ..Triggering a cultural renaissance at Chennai celebrating our deserving, illuminated local and international talent!’
