Newjeans Announces Departure From ADOR Following Public Dispute

It is official. The members of the K-pop girl group NewJeans have confirmed they are parting ways with their label ADOR. It is a subsidiary of HYBE. On Thursday, November 28th, in a late-night press conference, all five members of the K-pop group NewJeans, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, revealed that the group is severing ties with their label amid the allegations that ADOR had violated their contract.

“Once we leave ADOR, we’ll aim to proceed freely with the activities that we really desire,” member Danielle said, according to Reuters. “We really wish to be able to release new music for Bunnies, next year, as soon as possible, whenever,” she added, referencing the group’s fanbase. “We really hope that we have the opportunity to meet you guys from all around the world.” NewJeans also stated that after the termination of their contract, the group might not be able to use their group name in the future.

This announcement comes following the months-long agreement dispute between HYBE and ADOR’s former CEO, Min Hee-jin. He also served as the creative director of the girl group. Earlier this year, HYBE accused Min Hee of attempting to make the subsidiary independent. Hee-jin instantly denied the claim. However, during Thursday’s press conference, NewJeans expressed their wishes to continue to work with Hee-jin.

In response to this press conference, ADOR maintained that its agreement with NewJeans “remains in full effect.” The label also urged the group to continue their collaboration on upcoming projects. Reuters reports, “We respectfully request that the group continue its collaboration with ADOR,” according to the official statement. In their statement, ADOR revealed regret over the conducted press conference by NewJeans without proper review or agreement on the details. It also claimed that the girl group had no valid reason to announce the end of their contracts. The HYBE’s subsidiary also stated that they did not break any terms of the contract and the claim of trust being broken is not legitimate.

“We regret that a press conference to announce the termination of the exclusive contract was planned and conducted even before receiving a response to the certification of contents and without sufficient review. ADOR, as a part of the exclusive contracts, has not violated the contracts, and claiming that trust has been unilaterally broken does not constitute grounds for termination,” the agency said through a press statement rolled down on November 28th.

The agency further mentioned that they had tried to arrange meetings with the group but all attempts were unsuccessful. They mentioned that the agency hopes to have open and honest discussions going forward. “We hope that even now, we can open our hearts and have sincere conversations together. ADOR will do our best to support NewJeans in their activities and help them grow further as global artists.”
