(DailyMusicRoll Editorial):- Boston, Massachusetts Jul 9, 2021 (Issuewire.com) – The artists and creators behind Olivia O will be raising money this fall to fund a development workshop for their newly-created musical.
Olivia O, The Musical announces plans to launch on crowd-funding site Kickstarter in Fall 2021. Olivia O is a musical with book and lyrics by Diane Currie Sam and Andrew Siañez-De La O and musical score by Gil Yaron. The musical is set in El Paso, Texas, and tells the story of a migrant teenager separated from her mother at the US/Mexican border.
“With international attention on the U.S.-Mexico Border, it’s important that the art we create goes beyond the headlines. Olivia O hopes to take a timeless classic and create a musical experience that explores the tragedies of the border,” said Andrew Siañez-De La O co-playwright for Olivia O.
“Olivia O is a re-telling of the classic Oliver Twist story, with a completely modern feel that addresses important, happening-right-now issues. It’s exciting to see the rapid burgeoning of support for the show across the US and Canada, and this workshop is the next step toward our opening night dream,” said Diane Currie-Sam, co-playwright for Olivia O.

“The Kickstarter campaign will give us the opportunity to showcase the music to a professional theatre audience. I’m excited to share Olivia O’s emotionally moving and wide-ranging selection of songs in this workshop,” said Gil Yaron, composer for Olivia O.
About the Workshop
Monies raised from the Kickstarter campaign will go toward funding a live workshop, with equity musicians and actors, to further develop the script and music, and then showcase the story in a live (and filmed/streamed) production aimed at at at developing interest among theatre professionals. Costs will include the actors/musicians, venue rentals, equipment, and stage crew, including a director and dramaturg.
