It was December 5th, Tuesday when the news of rock legend Danny Laine passing away at the age of 79 hit the world. Danny’s former bandmate, legendary Paul McCartney took to Instagram to mourn the loss of his friend’s death. “I have many fond memories of my time with Denny: from the early days when The Beatles toured with the Moody Blues,” the Beatles legend wrote in the caption alongside a throwback picture of Laine. “Denny joined Wings at the outset. He was an outstanding vocalist and guitar player,” he continued.
“Our two bands had a lot of respect for each other and a lot of fun together. Denny joined Wings at the outset. He was an outstanding vocalist and guitar player. His most famous performance is probably ‘Go Now’ an old Bessie Banks song which he would sing brilliantly. He and I wrote some songs together the most successful being ‘Mull of Kintyre’ which was a big hit in the Seventies. We had drifted apart but in recent years managed to re-establish our friendship and share memories of our times together.”
Paul continued, “Denny was a great talent with a fine sense of humour and was always ready to help other people. He will be missed by all his fans and remembered with great fondness by his friends. I send my condolences and best wishes to his wife, Elizabeth and family. Peace and love Denny. It was a pleasure to know you. We are all going to miss you.”
Denny Laine was the co-founder of the famous rock band The Moody Blues in 1964 and sang on the band’s first-ever hit “Go Now”. He left the group in 1966 and in 1971, he teamed up with the former Beatles bassist and singer Paul McCartney, his wife Linda McCartney, and Denny Seiwell to form another rock band Wings. The group became huge in the industry and went on to have a massive six U.S. Top 10 singles along with three chart-topping singles; “Silly Love Songs,” “Listen to What the Man Said” and “With a Little Luck.” Through its runtime, the band also saw huge success in the U.K where they scored a dozen Top 10 hits and one No. 1 single. Wings, despite seeing such huge success, had seen multiple line-up changes in its runtime of 10 years. However, Laine and the McCartneys were the only constant in the group. Laine’s wife shared this devastating news on Facebook on Tuesday.
