It is time for a new hip-hop collaboration for Lana Del Rey as she teams up with Quavo for the highly-anticipated track ‘Tough’, released with an official music video.
After weeks of anticipation and speculations, Lana Del Rey and Quavo have finally launched their collaboration project for the new song ‘Tough’. The official music video is directed by Wyatt Spain Winfrey and it follows the aesthetic and pastel shades like most LDR projects. Soft and soothing, Lana and Quavo could be seen spending time together, singing and dancing in a cottage-core beauty. Well, the Hummer cannot be ignored though.
The ambiance in the music video is further enhanced with rural elements, foliage, and a lot of natural elements which churns out the organic essence of the song. ‘Tough’ is also co-produced by Cirkut and Andrew Watt who are bringing back the hip-hop-influenced essence of ‘Born to Die’. It was the debut project by Lana Del Rey. This collaboration is coming after a long time since their last work together for ‘Lust for Life’.
The album project ‘Lust for Life’ was enriched with multiple hip-hop collaborations including “Lust for Life” with The Weeknd, “Groupie Love” with A$AP Rocky as well as “Summer Bummer” with Playboi Carti. Last Year, Lana Del Rey launched, ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd‘ which garnered much attention but did not perform like her previous releases. The singer has confirmed that she will be dropping a new country album project in September this year, called ‘Lasso’.
On the other hand, Quavo has been working on multiple single projects since the release of his last and second studio album ‘Rocket Power’ which came out in August 2023. Some of the latest singles include “Clear the Smoke,” “Himothy”, “Mink”, etc which made their place to the top charts.
Releasing “Tough” just before the 4th of July is a very Lana Del Rey thing to do and the music video also shows a flag where Lana’s picture could be seen on the American Flag, which reads ‘American Queen’. There are also classic American references with the imagery of country, whiskey, boots, guns, and guitars. The toughness and striving nature of an American is further expressed through the lyrics as it goes like,
“Tough like the scuff on a pair of old leather boots
Like the blue-collar, red-dirt attitude
Like a .38 made out of brass
Tough like the stuff in your grandpa’s glass”
It goes without saying that the track is currently buzzing among all LDR fans while stirring American hearts.
