British music artist Birdy is all set to release her fourth studio album, Young Heart. The album is set to release on April 30 with Atlantic Records as the distribution partner. The release of the album was announced back on January 22 when she came out with the first single, ‘Surrender’ from the upcoming record.
Her last release was in November 2020 with the EP, Piano Sketches. Between her last album, Beautiful Lies, and the upcoming one, she admitted that she reached writer’s block and hence took four years to finish Young Heart. The album is personal as he went through a breakup during the writing. She took to emotional support in Nina Simone and Etta James’ timeless music. She also traveled during this time and attributes this album a closure for her heartbreak, similar to that of Joni Mitchell’s album. Blue. The album will comprise 16 songs including ‘Voyager’, ‘Loneliness’, ‘The Otherside’, and ‘Surrender’.
For this album, she worked with producers Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian. The recording took place in Nashville and was completed right before the pandemic hit us back in March 2020. It took another year to release it as she reflected upon her work deeply and made changes according to her change in personality over the tough times. Some of the changes were made in a temporary studio in her home in New Forest.
Birdy performed on April 15 at a live-streamed concert at Wilton’s Music hall in London accompanied by a band including eight string players, a clarinet player, and a French horn player. The show was shot by director Ed Coleman. The performance was rated four out of five stars by iNews and was attributed as “a masterful Livestream, full of beautiful noise”. On 30 April, coinciding with the release of the album, Birdy is holding an album launch party on YouTube.
Young Heart is set to be released on CD, cassette, vinyl, and digital formats. Keep an eye on the release and listen to the album on Birdy’s official Spotify and YouTube handle on April 30.
