To achieve this, she enters into a toxic relationship with Tedros, a perverted self-help mentor who turns out to be a cult leader, and he begins to brainwash her, and her life gradually begins to fall apart. The role of Tedros is played by Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd.
News of this show has already created a massive stir among fans, especially since rumors about possible connections to Spears, whose life had been controlled by a legal arrangement for 14 years before she gained freedom, started making the rounds on tabloids. In November 2021, Spears took to Instagram to announce that she had “shot a movie titled ‘The Idol’” which was “guaranteed to have hits and a lot bright pics to put in (her) beautiful family’s faces!!!” It however remains unclear if the post was a reference to the HBO series. In March 2022, she once again used the platform to share her love for Sam’s Euphoria. Two months later, the singer shared a picture of her with Sam and The Weeknd, and her husband, Sam Asghari, commented under it about how she might be a “new Euphoria character,” to which The Weeknd replied with a red heart emoji.
It was during a press conference on Tuesday when a journalist popped the question about how much of an influence Britney was in forming the character of Jocelyn to which Sam replied that being a ‘90s kid, he grew up watching Britney Spears and described her as “one of the greatest pop stars of all time.” He however made it clear that the script was not a retelling of Spears’ story or of “any particular pop star” and instead emphasizes the array of issues, including the loneliness, pressure of presenting oneself a certain way, corruption, and exploitation, that young stars are subjected to in the industry.
