Shakira has shared her views and thoughts on the 2023 global hit ‘Barbie‘. She also revealed that her two sons “hated it” because “they felt that it was emasculating”. In a recent interview with Allure, the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer was asked if she had seen the Greta Gerwig-directed movie, which came out last summer featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in leading roles. To this, she replied that she had along with her two boys. “My sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating,” she said. “And I agree, to a certain extent. I’m raising two boys. I want ’em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women,” said Shakira.
“I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide. I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well. We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost,” the ‘Whenever, Wherever’ singer continued. It appears that the singer was unhappy with the movie’s ending. At the end of ‘Barbie’ Ryan Gosling’s character Ken was left to his life at his Mojo Dojo Casa House. Whereas Margot Robbie’s Barbie character left for the real world to pursue her dreams. When the reporter at Allure asked the singer, she said, “Just because a woman can do it all doesn’t mean she should?” “Why not share the load with people who deserve to carry it and who have a duty to carry it as well?” she replied.

However, fans are not too happy with the replies and now the Columbian singer is under fire on social media for her harsh words against the global blockbuster. The film earned massive recognition and praise, however, Shakira along with her two boys does not think that the film’s storyline resonates with her idea of what feminism is. One X user wrote, “I was so mad at this STUPID & ridiculous “opinion” and statement that I unfollowed #Shakira this morning on IG. 😂😂😂😂 TEAM #Barbie always. And Brian you crack me up!” while another one wrote, “I’m disappointed in this take Shakira.” One person on Instagram wrote, “She missed the whole point of the film,” followed by two cry-face emojis. Another person also took a dig at the ‘Waka Waka’ singer by commenting, “The point of the film just went right over her head, omg,” while one Instagram user said, “If you watched the Barbie movie and felt that it was emasculating, you missed the point of the movie, lol.” However, not everyone went against Shakira. One person on Instagram also wrote “She’s kinda right tho” No she isn’t??? The point of the movie is how the patriarchy hurts both men and women. It’s not putting anyone down; she just needs to get over herself” in favor of her.
