Shi Shi Sun, the Taiwanese-South Korean singer won the Golden Melody Award for the Best Female Mandarin Singer. She has earned this milestone in her career with the album ‘Boomerang’. It is her third time winning the Golden Melody Award. Before this, she won Best Mandarin Album in 2019 for ‘SHI’s Journey’.
Along with that, she also won Best Vocal Album Recording in 2021 for ‘Where is SHI’. Her magnificent pieces of music have created a sensation among all music listeners and that is why she has had the opportunity to achieve the GMA three times.
Shi Shi Sun started her career in 2012 with the Taiwanese singing reality competition named ‘Chinese Million Star’. Right after participating in the singing reality competition, she started gaining much fame. This proficient music artist came to Taiwan from South Korea to start her music career. Currently, she is one of the most famous Taiwanese female singers who has reached out to a large array of music listeners.
In recent times, she gained even more fame for her songs ‘Tears Remember You’ and ‘Someday or One Day’. Both these songs have become quite popular on Spotify and have gotten 24 million and 17 million streams. These new successful soundtracks have helped her to protect the record deal with Rock Records & Tapes.
Recently, Dr Chen-Yu Lin, the lecturer of MA creative and cultural industries at Cardiff University has said ‘From Mandopop ballads to blockbuster film theme songs, and experimental productions blending genres, Shi Shi Sun’s artistry and songwriting capabilities have continually shone through. Her experimental approach to music-making in the digital era has captivated her fans’.
She has also stated ‘The previous two times I was nominated and won album awards made me very happy but also very stressed, so I experienced some ups and downs. This time, I just told myself not to overthink it. Being recognized is still very gratifying, and it gives my music a chance to be heard by more people’.
Regarding the Golden Melody Award, Jack Liao, the event project director has said ‘Although this is a challenging task, feedback from international music industry professionals has shown that when they think of Mandarin music, they think of Taiwan’s music’. winning GMA for the third time is not an easy task. And that is why Shi Shi Sun is doing more experiments with her musical creations.
In an interview, she has said ‘I am gradually opening up more to experimenting with the combination of three languages, which is quite interesting. It allows fans from different regions to hear elements they like and are accustomed to. I will continue to try different things and slowly start preparing for an overseas tour, hoping to bring my music to more diverse stages’.
