It is not the first time someone has done their own take on the US national anthem, but the Andress version is probably the worst ever. The country singer and four-time Grammy nominee Ingrid Andress has horrified her fans with her new performance where she belted out the country’s national anthem and earned the title of doing it the worst. Just like anyone else, it was an honor for her to sing the US national anthem, ‘Star Spangled Banner’ on July 15th, Monday, and the singer was more than prepared. However, to everyone’s disappointment, what the singer delivered was way less than what was expected. The national anthem is indeed a challenging song to even attempt to. The clips of her not-so-popular rendition performed at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas went viral and people are not quite happy.
Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr tweeted, “I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life.” This is not all, trolls kept coming under every post that featured the artist and her performance on Twitter. One commented, “My golden retriever just ran away from home. Thanks Ingrid”, while another one posted, “Fergie no longer has the worst rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by a “professional” singer.” comments like “Did they listen to an audition?”, “Sung is a strong word to use for that”, “At first I thought she got it back together, but nope. Bad day for the pipes.”, “My dog howled”, “Roseanne: I sang the worst anthem ever! Ingrid: Hold my beer.”, etc. kept coming on Twitter.
After much backlash on the internet, the country singer hopped on the internet to apologize for her performance on Monday stating that she was drunk. On Tuesday, the singer posted on her social media accounts that she was drunk and going to rehab to get the necessary treatment. Ingrid posted, “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.” She wrote in an Instagram post, “That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition.” MLB spokesperson Matt Bourne said that it is not commenting. On the other hand, the representative for Andress said that there would be no further comments.
Andress began her music career as a Nashville songwriter, writing songs from musicians across the genres. The 32-year-old musician has writing credits in BebeRexha’s “Girl in the Mirror,” Halestorm’s “Conflicted,” and “Boys” which is British singer Charli XCX’s one of the most acclaimed and popular hits.
