South African singer and composer Mbongeni Ngema died in a car accident at the age of 68 years. The statement was confirmed by his family on Wednesday. Along with that, it is coming to know that Ngema lost his life due to a head-on collision. The report says, that the singer was returning from a funeral. He was coming back from Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, and mid-way, he lost his life.
This heartbreaking news devastated all of his fans. His sudden death stunned his audiences instantly. Mbongeni Ngema has been an integral part of the African music industry. Along with being a composer and singer, he was also an actor, writer, and choreographer. His contribution to the African industry is impeccable. And losing someone like him from the industry is quite astonishing.
While talking about the accident, one of his family member said ‘It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, father, husband and a patriot, Mbongeni Ngema’. In addition to that, they have added more by saying ‘Ngema was killed in a head-on car accident whilst returning from attending a funeral’. According to the report, it is coming to know that, he was a passenger in the car and wasn’t driving on his own.
Ngema is the artist, who made ‘Sarafina’ in the 1992. This particular movie helped him to make an identity in the African entertainment industry. In this movie he starred Leleti Khumalo, whom he later married. It is the movie that has been played in the New York’s Broadway for two long years. His contribution to the entertainment industry is undeniable. He has shown his charisma in every possible way and won everyone’s hearts.
His contribution to the African industry is unbelievable and that is why, no one is being able to accept his sudden death. After his death, the South African Minister of Sport, Arts, & Culture said ‘I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Mbongeni Ngema, one of South Africa’s great playwrights, directors, lyricists and composers. Dr Ngema’s internationally acclaimed work, from Sarafina to Stimela sase Zola, told distinctly South African stories and experiences’.
