Música Mexicana or Mexican music is currently the most streamed Latin music genre in the U.S., dominating a total of 26 states. On global Spotify, it is also the third most-listened-to Latin music genre. One of the primary figures in Mexican music is Mexican singer Peso Pluma. He is currently following Bad Bunny as the second most-streamed Latin artist on Spotify. He is best known for corridostumbados, a Mexican music genre combining traditional Mexican music with reggaeton, trap, and hip-hop. He is also behind several other regional Mexican music genres, which helped launch young Mexican musicians to stardom.

In the third and fourth spots, Colombian reggaeton singers Feid and Karol G sit comfortably. This has happened for a fifth consecutive year where Karol G has reigned as the most-listened-to-female Latin artist on Spotify. Karol G’s album ‘MañanaSerá Bonito’ was the No. 1 most-streamed Latin album on Spotify. It was also the No. 4 most-listened-to album globally. The three other male Latin singers also had big years and are among the top 10 most-streamed artists globally on Spotify. Bad Bunny is at No. 3, Peso Pluma is at No. 7, and Feid is at No. 1o on the Spotify global chart. These male singers stand strong among heavy hit makers like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish.

The data showcases that consumer demand for Latin music has been steadily increasing over the past decade. Study shows that this surge in Latin music demand was mainly driven by the growing mainstream popularity of Latin urban genres like reggaeton. Previously, the industry was more relied on pop, rock enespañol, and Mexican music to make Spanish-language songs popular worldwide. However, this seems to shifting in recent times. Four of the top 10 most-streamed Latin artists globally on Spotify focus on músicamexicana: Peso Pluma, Junior H, Natanael Cano, and the American regional Mexican band FuerzaRegida. On the other hand, the remaining six artists on the list, Bad Bunny, Feid, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Myke Towers, and Anuel AA make reggaeton music. Spotify’s top Latin song this year was the reggaeton hit ‘Gata Only’ by Chilean singers FloyyMenor and CrisMj. The song was also the fourth most-streamed song globally.
