The world of pop music fans on social media is sensitive and quick to react. They get excited easily but can also get upset just as fast, with their emotions often tied to social media alerts. On Tuesday, Pop Crave shared a post that got people talking: “Fans think Tate McRae might be on Morgan Wallen’s new album after she shared a photo of a Tennessee jersey with his initials.” The post included a photo of both singers and the jersey, which had McRae’s “T8” and a small “MW” on the collar.

Tate McRae is expected to appear on Morgan Wallen’s new album, but not all of her fans are happy about it. The news came shortly after Wallen announced a song with Post Malone called ‘I Ain’tComin’ Back’, which will be part of his massive 37-track album titled I’m The Problem. Some fans are surprised by the collab, especially given the differences in their music styles. On Tuesday, April 15, Tate McRae sparked buzz about Morgan Wallen’s upcoming album when she posted a photo on Instagram. The picture showed an orange jersey with Wallen’s initials on it. This hinted that she might be featured on the album. Since then, fan reactions have been mixed. Many are not thrilled about the possible collaboration, partly because of the controversies Wallen has faced over the past few years. While some are curious about what the song might sound like, others are upset that McRae could be working with someone who has been involved in several public issues in the past.

“This sucks so bad lmao tate literally is one of my favorite people on the planet im just so shocked and disappointed ab this,” one X user posted. Another one responded to the Pop Crave announcement with a video of Morgan Wallen using a racial slur back in 2021. “In case you all forgot why we don’t like Morgan Wallen,” the video captioned. The singer addressed the racist incident months later after his music was pulled from the radio and digital playlisting. However, this did only little to impact his streaming numbers and direct sales. It might have even helped. “I was around some of my friends, and we just… we say dumb stuff together,” he said at the time as an explanation. “In our minds, it’s playful. I don’t know, that sounds ignorant, but that’s really where it came from.”

The backlash over Tate’s collaboration, however, did not end there. One user on X posted, “so you’re telling me tatemcrae will throw away a tyla feature, and a second kid laroi feature, but she’ll do a song with known racist and neo nazimorganwallen???”, while another one said, “how are you gonna kill your career like that after releasing sports car”. Another comment read, “Had a nightmare that Tate McRae collabed with Morgan Wallen and then went on a joint tour with him and I woke up shaking in a cold sweat”, while another one read, “i knew in my soul not to jump on the tatemcrae bandwagon”.
