Taylor Swift is finally on her journey back to 1989. She has been the queen of dropping subtle hints for her fans when it comes to her music and for quite some time now they have been anticipating the release of the re-recorded version of her fifth studio album which was recorded in 2014. Swift took to social media to announce the release with the caption:
“Surprise!! ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ is on its way to you ! The ‘1989’ album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th. To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVORITE re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long! Pre order ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ at https://t.co/12bONe9FJA ”
The album comprises the re-recorded editions of some of her major hits, including the three Number Ones, “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” and “Bad Blood”. Along with the announcement for the album’s release date, she also shared its cover photo, which featured a smiling Taylor against the backdrop of a beautiful azure sky with seagulls flying around. Swifties had already assumed that ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ would have something to do with the color blue given she had been donning numerous blue outfits during her Eras Tour shows, the most iconic ones being the “Enchanted” blue gown, a new blue outfit for her Folklore era performance and a shimmery blue one for her acoustic set.
Addressing these speculations, the singer announced on the show, “You might have noticed there were some new outfits on the show… There’s something I’ve been doing for a really, really ridiculously, embarrassingly long time. I think instead of telling you about it, just show sort of show you.” The singer then revealed the cover on the screen behind her, sending fans into a flurry of excitement.
The 33-year-old singer had decided to take over the right to her music after the Big Machine Label Group came to be acquired by Scooter Braun, whom Taylor had defined as an “incessant, manipulative bully”, and his company Ithaca Holdings. After the public fallout with Big Machine, Taylor shifted to Universal Music Group’s Republic Record. So far Taylor has re-recorded four of her previous albums and ‘1989’ had been a landmark album for her that marked her transition from country to pop music.
