Taylor Swift has once again made history by adding another prestigious award to her collection.

She was presented with the Global Icon Award at the BRIT Awards on Tuesday.

The 31-year old Grammy-winning singer will accept the award in front of 4000 audiences in an event that is a part of the trial return to mass gatherings in the UK amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

The BRIT Award ceremony is part of the pilot project run by the government that is testing the effects of the mass-attending events before they ease the Coronavirus restrictions soon.

Swift is the first female artist to get this award. And as per People magazine, she is also the first non-English musician to receive the award.

The most famous winners of the award are Elton John, Robbie Williams, and David Bowie.

Swift has become the highest-selling musician in the UK in 2021 with her latest re-recorded album ‘Fearless.’

She thanked the BRIT in her acceptance speech for giving her such honor. She said that she was extremely proud of being a part of the global music community, especially in the year that was in dire need of music.

She further said that she has learned to appreciate the people around her, who have believed in her. She tells the audience to never take these people for granted.

BRIT has been receiving criticism recently that there is not much diversity in it.

They expanded the group of over 1000 music industry professionals, in charge of selecting the winners in 2017, to make it more diverse and gender-balanced.

Even last year, the award was highly criticized as there were no female artists, part of the shortlist for album of the year. This year there are four female musicians in that category. These artists are Celeste, Jessie Ware, Dua Lipa, and Arlo Parks. The only male performer in the category is J Hus.

With the government trying to bring everything back to normal, the show will be a [part of the recent government-run gathering events like soccer matches, outdoor and indoor events, and more.

As a part of the research, the attendees will be tested and observed after the events.

Whoever wants to attend the shows will need to show a negative Covid-19 test report before the event. They do not need to wear masks and maintain social distancing during the show.
