The IT Ministry Is Advising Enabling the FM Radio Feature in Every Smartphone

The government of India is taking the initiative and advising phone manufacturing companies to enable FM radio accessibility in every smartphone. Recently, it is coming to know that IT Ministry has issued the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) and the Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT) to make FM Radio available in every kind of phone. They are putting their effort into this initiative for emergencies and disaster purposes.

In the last few years, smartphone manufacturing companies are not focusing on this particular feature. But FM radios are a very important feature of a phone. From FM radio one get vital updates on disasters and emergency news. Not only that, but it can be also used for entertainment purposes too. Now people are very much dependent on digital platforms and social media sites. But there are times when digital platforms cannot be a reliable source of information.

For that reason, the IT ministry is advising Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) and the Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT) to work on the FM feature in every smartphone. It is a source of information that is easy to access for everyone. Even people from rural areas can also get a hand on this feature. With this free FM radio service, it will be easy for the government to make important announcements and reach out to every people in a short time. Along with that, the government can send real-time updates on every disaster and emergency situation. This way, they can also save many lives and make a better impact on their livelihood. Therefore, distributing updates will become much easier for the government.

The IT ministry has also said ‘It should be ensured that wherever the mobile phone is equipped with an inbuilt FM Radio receiver function or feature, that function or feature is not disabled or deactivated but is kept enabled/activated in the mobile phone. Further, it is advised that if the FM Radio receiver function or feature is not available in the mobile phones, it may be included’. Radios are a very much important tool to distribute news. Thus phone manufacturing companies cannot avoid this while making a phone.
