The City of Markham has named a street after one of the most celebrated Indian music composers AR Rahman. After the news was disclosed to him he wrote and published a letter showing his appreciation for this step taken by Markham.

Rahman has always been one of the most prominent music directors and maestro of India but with time he has become a worldwide figure. He spends over three decades in the Indian film industry. And his worldwide popularity went to the next level after he won an Academy Award in the year 2009 for his composition for the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

He just finished touring in Canada in July and right after that, this step was taken. The Jai Ho composer is been awarded numerous times but this gesture has meant something more to the composer. He wrote in the open letter, “I never imagined this ever in my life. I am very grateful to all of you”. He mentioned the mayor of Markham city Frank Scarpitti and other counselors of the city. He also mentioned Indian Consulate General Apoorva Srivastava along with the citizens of Canada.

He included more, “The name A.R. Rahman is not mine. It means merciful. The merciful is the quality of the common God we all have and one can only be the servant of the merciful. So let that name bring peace, prosperity, happiness, and health to all the people living in Canada. God bless you all.”

That open letter is a shout-out for everyone who is in some ways associated with Rahman or his works. He is one of the most decent humans being concluded the letter by saying, “I feel like this gives me immense responsibility to do much more and be inspiring; not to get tired and not to retire… yet. Even if I get tired I’ll remember that I have more things to do, more people to connect, more bridges to cross.”
