Sinead O’Connor, the Irish singer, and political activist was a persona who was widely known for her different and outspoken views on politics, the music industry, and women’s rights. Her different point of view has made her individual from the others in many aspects. Recently, the activist surprisingly died at the age of 56 on the 26th of July. After her death, many previous incidents of her are coming on the internet and making a buzz. Even her 1992 SNL appearance and her complications with Madonna are also going viral once again.

Once she has also given an open letter to the pop singer Miley Cyrus for her hit solo track ‘Wrecking Ball’. While talking about the song, Miley said that she was inspired by O’Connor’s visual for the track ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’. but O’Connor wasn’t very pleased after her response and she stated ‘nothing but harm will come in the long run from allowing yourself to be exploited’.

In addition to that, she has also said ‘I wasn’t going to write this letter, but today I’ve been dodging phone calls from various newspapers who wished me to remark upon your having said in Rolling Stone your Wrecking Ball video was designed to be similar to the one for Nothing Compares’. She continued by saying ‘So this is what I need to say … And it is said in the spirit of motherliness and with love. I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be ‘pimped’, whether its the music business or yourself doing the pimping. Nothing but harm will come in the long run, from allowing yourself to be exploited, and it is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent’.

This incident took place 10 years ago and even now it is very much clear that O’Connor was very much different from the other artists of the music industry and also had a different mindset when it comes to making and presenting soundtracks to the global audiences.
