The Weeknd was furious as he angrily slammed the Grammy Awards claiming it to be corrupt and fake after the pop icon walked past with zero nominations despite releasing several hits this year. After criticizing the Grammys on his Twitter account, over his zero nominations for After Hours and his single Blinding Lights, the star circled a fresh stream of accusations, and this time against the Recording Academy.
The Weeknd took to his social media account and posted that after collaboratively planning a performing for weeks, how he ended up being uninvited. In his opinion zero nominations equal to you’re not invited, he tweeted angrily. The singer further added that the Grammys continue to remain corrupt and owe him, his fans, and the whole industry transparency.
The singer put out the harsh words due to a previous context that happened less than a year ago after the Recording Academy’s ousted CEO had reportedly accused the group that evaluates the nominations in the top categories of having some conflicts of interest and thereby not engaging in a transparent selection procedure.
On being asked whether he was surprised that The Weeknd did not earn a single nomination, Harvey Mason Hr, who is the Recording Academy’s interim President and CEO had stated that it’s quite hard to predict the voter’s decision.
He went on to add that there are so many nominations and then there’s only so many slots, and therefore it is tough to predict what the voters would vote for in any given year, he told The Associated Press and concluded by saying that he is trying not to be too surprised with the news.
Going further into what the three-time Grammy winner is pointing at, Variety spoke to the sources who are close to the singer’s team, who further alleged that before the 2021 nominations, the Weeknd was in fact in talks to perform at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
However, the negotiations encountered a struggle when the In Your Eyes singer was offered the Super Bowl halftime show that takes place a week after the Grammys.
Eventually, BVariety has alleged that his team had reportedly agreed to the terms stating that he would perform on both the shows. However, the whole agreement came to a standstill when the performer realized that he had not received any nominations on Tuesday, 24gth November.

Getting back to The Weeknd’s criticism, Recording Academy’s interim President and CEO, Harvey Mason Jr. have stated that they completely understand that the singer is very much disappointed at not being nominated. He even went on to add that he was quite surprised and can only empathize with what the singer is feeling t the moment. He said that The Weeknd’s music this year was excellent and that his contributions to the music community and the broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration and respect. He even added on how they all were thrilled to know that he would be performing at the upcoming Super Bowl and they would have simply loved him also perform on the Grammy Stage the weekend before, he added.
But unfortunately, every year there are very few nominations in comparison to the number of deserving artists. But being the only peer-voted music award, they shall continue to recognize and celebrate excellence in music while shinning a light on the many stunning artists that make up the global community, he added. To state in clear terms, the voting procedure in all categories ended well before The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl was being announced so in no way it could have possibly affected the nomination process.
Apart from The Weeknd who was shut from being a Grammy nominee, Luke Combs who has set records on the streaming services and has even dominated the Country charts was shut out as well. Moreover, Morgan Wallen who also had a quite successful year in the Country music went home empty.
There is a group of young R&B female acts moving the needle who also missed out on the nominations, including names like Summer Walker, Teyana Taylor, and Kehlani. Additionally, late rapper Juice WRLD, Brandy, and Chris Brown were also insulted.
