Abel Tesfaye, the R&B singer has recently revealed his mental breakdown and addressed his music career with his current state. Back in 2022, the singer had to cancel his SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and reschedule it due to his vocal issues. He almost lost his voice and it made him feel ‘defeated’ which was not a nice experience at all.

The “self-imposed pressure” of his life was enough to make him feel helpless although he has made some significant progress in the last few years. The Weeknd said, “I knew that I really needed to sit the f*** down and figure out my life.”

He needed time “To understand what happened, face it, learn something new, and start again. I’d had a kind of a mental breakdown, which is pretty much what this new album’s about.” His experience at the SoFi Stadium also made him give up on his public persona.

The singer further added, “Part of me actually was thinking, ‘You lost your voice because it’s done; you said what you had to say. Don’t overstay at the party — you can end it now and live a happy life.’ You know? Put the bow on it: ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’? Now we’re here.”

He also explained, “When is the right time to leave, if not at your peak? Once you understand who I am too much, then it’s time to pivot.” When he was asked about music, the singer said, “I don’t think I can stop doing that.” And then, he clarified, “But everything needs to feel like a challenge. And for me right now, the Weeknd, whatever that is, it’s been mastered.”

The singer finally broke the matrix of continuous competition and depicted the picture of the industry by saying, “It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it.” Perhaps, it is time!
