Weezer is unveiling its plans for 2022, including the four-part EP project called SZNZ. An EP in every season, their unique plans have worked brilliantly in 2021. In 2021 they announced the four-album box set as ‘SZNS’, as a short form of the word ‘Seasons’. The same was planned for this year as well and on March 11th, 2022 they publicized the new set but the title was ‘SZNZ’ this time.
Cuomo spoke about the SZNZ 2021, “Spring is kind of like happy chill, and then we move through to dance rock, like a Strokes-style album for the fall, and then sad acoustic, Elliott Smith-style for winter.”
They released the first installment as SZNZ: Spring on 20th March, also known as the vernal equinox. And now the summer EP is also out on the very night of summer solstice. But this was not all that they have planned to share; they will be back by the time of Equinox with a Broadway Residency to celebrate this year’s releases. The Broadway Theatre will be a five-night show; the first four nights will celebrate the EPs separately along with various releases from their catalog.
According to sources, the songs are sonically and thematically aligned with each EP. In a press release, they shared that many of their presumably famous numbers are not released yet. On the fifth night of their Broadway Residency, there will be an encore night featuring all the classic Weezer hits. You can buy the tickets for the show which will be available from 24th June.
On the 13th of September, the show will open and the opening night will be based on Spring EP. On 14th September they will perform songs mainly based on Summer EP. Leaving the very next day, the band will be back on stage on 16th September with their Autumn EP, and on 17th September they will offer songs from their Winter EP. And the concluding night has been designated as ‘SZNZ Encore’.
