It is ‘Eternal Sunshine’ week as Ariana Grande releases her seventh studio album with the official music video of ‘We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)’.
Ariana Grande treats the music world with her seventh studio album ‘Eternal Sunshine’ and tries the plot of the movie in her mind! The global pop icon just dropped the latest music video of the new single ‘We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)’. The music video features Ariana Grande as Peaches who is trying to forget and wipe off every memory of her ex-boyfriend and Evan Peters as the ex-boyfriend. The pop star’s new music video channels the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
The singer, 30, navigates through some of the most heartwarming, honest, and heartfelt music in her career in the album. However, the music video brings a bittersweet truth for her fans and the singer beautifully portrays the love and loss in a real relationship. In the music video, Ariana plays a character named Peaches who visits Brighter Days Inc. to erase the memory of her ex-boyfriend, played by Evan Peters. The video starts with the image of Grande waiting in a room with a consent letter in her hands. The consent letter reads “You have given extensive thought behind your decision and give ‘Brighter Days Inc.’ the exclusive permission to remove this person completely from your memory,” and the video shows her pen hovering over the boxes labeling no and yes before finally putting a tick mark on yes.
The Christian Breslauer-directed video is beautiful, and shows off the singer’s real intention behind the single ‘We Can’t Be Friend’. Not just that, the video also channels the 2004 film after which Grande named her newest album as well. The visuals perfectly depict her deep emotions as a person who is trying to forget the memories of their ex-partner to move on peacefully in life. “I didn’t think you’d understand me/ How could you ever even try,” she sings in the video as the nurse takes out a stuffed bear from her box full of memories. “I don’t want to tip-toe, but I don’t want to hide/ But I don’t want to feed this monstrous fire,” Grande continues as the process of wiping off memory starts.
As the storyline moved, the singer said the final goodbye to the memories of her past boyfriend with teary eyes as finally blithely passed her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend with her new partner without noticing or recognizing. Fans are saying this video is her best, both production-wise and visual-wise. Surely, it has been long since we had ideally conceptualized videos and Ariana Grande seems to be filling that void!
