Just like her previous two albums, this album is also a beaming collaboration between Eilish and her brother Finneas, who also produced the album. The writing is one of the significant ones that caught the attention of the listeners on the first go. The singer discusses and explores various subjects such as body dysmorphia, sexuality, etc. while sharing a glimpse of the 22-year-old’s experiences during the album-making process. In her May 2024 cover story for Rolling Stone, the artist shared “I feel like this album is me.”

“It’s not a character. It feels like the When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? version of me. It feels like my youth and who I was as a kid,” the singer continued. Billie also said that this new album has helped her clear the pathway to return back to the truest version of herself. “This whole process has felt like I’m coming back to the girl that I was. I’ve been grieving her,” she added. “I’ve been looking for her in everything, and it’s almost like she got drowned by the world and the media. I don’t remember when she went away.” Her brother, Finneas, said in the same interview, “I feel like this album has some real ghosts in it, and I say that with love. There’s ideas on this album that are five years old, and there’s a past to it, which I really like. When Billie talks about the era of When We All Fall Asleep, it was this theatricality and this darkness. What’s the thing that no one is as good at as Billie is? This album was an exploration of what we do best.”

The entire album, all tracks are made with slime beautiful and enchanting melodies with some very distinctive lyrical touches that make the listener feel all the feelings. Maybe withholding from releasing any single beforehand was a great idea that worked really well for Eilish, because ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ is an absolute experience, a journey.
