Doechii drops her intense ‘Anxiety’ music video, blending chaos and tribute to Gotye. This follows her Grammy win and rising success with Alligator Bites Never Heal.

Doechii has just released the music video for ‘Anxiety’, and it feels like a dream-turned nightmare. The ‘Anxiety’ music video was dropped on April 18 and starts off calm and familiar. Doechii is seen working on music in her room, a nod to her old 2019 Coven Music Sessions where the song began. But things quickly take a wild turn when a S.W.A.T. team suddenly crashes through her windows. From there, everything spirals into chaos. She dodges creepy intruders, trying to put out a fire in her kitchen, and finally runs outside, only to dance in the middle of the street as a crowd of neighbors slowly surrounds her. The video turns her anxiety into a full-blown nightmare. Seems like she just cannot catch a break!
“Anxiety, keep on trying me/ Feel it quietly, tryna silence me, yeah,” the musician sings in the song’s hook. “Anxiety, shake it off of me/ Somebody’s watching me.” Doechii first shared ‘Anxiety’ in a YouTube video back in 2019. The song uses a big sample from Gotye’s 2011 hit ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’. However, it was not available on streaming platforms for a long time. Fans had to wait until March 2025, when she finally dropped the official version. Once it was released, the track quickly took off and made it to No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. That moment was huge for Doechii – it became her very first song to break into the top 10, marking a major milestone in her music career.
In the video for the Swamp Princess, directed by James Mackel, there is a clear tribute to Gotye. At one point, Doechii looks over and sees a man and woman covered in geometric body paint, blending into a wall in the house. This moment is a direct nod to Gotye’s famous ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ music video, which features a very similar visual style. It is a creative way for Doechii to honor the original song she sampled, while also adding her own unique twist to it. The scene ties her version of ‘Anxiety’ back to its musical roots.
The ‘Anxiety’ music video comes eight months after Doechii dropped her game-changing mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. The project quickly climbed to No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and made her only the third woman ever to win Best Rap Album at the Grammys. Since that big win in 2025, things have taken off for her. In March, she was named Woman of the Year at the Billboard Women in Music Awards. That same Grammy night, she also released a new single called ‘Nosebleeds’. On top of that, she teamed up with BLACKPINK’s JENNIE for the track ‘ExtraL’. It has been a wild and exciting ride for Doechii, and she is showing no signs of slowing down. Fans are excited to see what comes next from the Swamp Princess!~
