The visual presentation of ‘ok on your own’ showcases, Carly Rae Jepsen and Mxmtoon expressing the reasons for the failures of their respective relationships – assuring themselves and their exes that all will be ‘Ok on Your Own’. This track is a fragment of the upcoming EP of the artist, titled ‘Dusk’, to be released on 1st October.
Both the featured artists take on turns with their verses, with their vocal lines combining on the pre-chorus as well as the chorus section. The artists sing, ‘And I hate to leave you feeling all alone/But your story cannot start until you’ve grown/ You can find how to be OK on your own/I just can’t be the one that makes you feel at home.’
The video has perfectly complemented the spoken out verses, capturing the vibes wonderfully well. Mxmtoon is seen wandering around the empty streets alone. She walks on a rooftop, walks her bike down across the many streets.
Mxmtoon said, ‘I was beyond excited to work on this track and have it be graced by Carly Rae Jepsen, someone who stands for empowerment and knows the themes of love and loneliness all too well. My hope for the song is that ‘OK on Your Own’ can let people know that vulnerability is never something to be afraid of, and admitting you need time for yourself and support from a friend is sometimes a necessary step — sometimes relationships aren’t meant to work.’
Keeping the context of the songwriting in mind, it can be said that both the artists have performed well. The utilized ingredients have been well-portrayed though the fascinating moments. ‘ok on your own’ is a delightful piece of music that leaves its mark long after the concluding moments.
