Bristol-born indie rocker, Oscar Merry takes us down a new path with his new track ‘Cower’ from his fresh EP, ‘Unfurl’.
The musician gets the show on the road in flying form. Furthermore, a simple yet effective cymbal brush starts, but an ingenious guitar melody soon greets the speaker with force. A few more guitar layers then arrive, and they find their own space well in the mix. Oscar then jumps to the front of the mixture with a gritty vocal performance. He sings with certainty, and he leaves no room for ambiguity with his message resonating immediately.
The track then slows in the pre-chorus ahead of an anthemic chorus. It is a wise move because it gives us a breather ready to mosh into the chorus with its dynamic rhythm. The melody is catchy, but yet it is not repetitive, and Oscar changes his approach regularly, leaving us guessing.
From the chorus, we are back into the verse, and it gets even more definite with Oscar sounding even more potent. He grips, and it is challenging not to find yourself gravitating towards his aptitude. Another component, I relish about this track is the finale; it is enormous. As a result, it would get even the most rigid of listeners nodding along with its confident delivery. All the sounds whirl around the mix triumphantly, and Oscar takes no prisoners with his upfront and biting style.
Overall, I have been seeking a track like ‘Cower’ for quite some time without consciously knowing. Also, it has come at a precise time with us all needing something fresh to keep us going through these crazy times. Nevertheless, it is just one of the great tracks from his EP, ‘Unfurl’, and there are plenty more gems just like this one inside his new EP release.
