A new high school girl is found on the music radar. It’s TATE MCRAE with her dynamic new music video “RUBBERBAND”. One thing you will ask yourself for sure: who knows the boulder-heavy pressure of moving on from an almost perfect relationship rather than this young and talented pop singer?
MCRAE is surely obsessed with her music and high school fun but she tries to look through herself too heavily as she decides to move on. Her obsession to get over her lover is strongly depicted in the chorus: “Got this rubberband on my wrist, on my wrist and I snap it every, time that I think about your lips”.
Though the song is about the painful phase of overcoming the affections and attachments that isn’t around anymore, she actually got the idea to make the song explicitly about the wrist band she wears around her wrist. She starts to snap the band whenever she gets anxious and that’s exactly what she deploys in the music video. Her body feels and anxious with the outcome that she doesn’t expect and trying to survive till the last minute.
She makes more sense when she said, “people when they grow up, they still have those same feelings. I think it’s just making sure that you trust your intuition when you’re writing.,” as the part of her inspiration for the music video.
